If you could capture the majesty of the Rockies and combine it with the comfort of a luxury home, the result would be Black Bear Haus. Constructed of alternating 12 and 14 inch diameter custom logs, this rustic retreat perfectly blends nature's beauty with the elegance and functionality of modern design. This seamless transition of beauty within and without is embodied by Brian Schafer's (of Edgewood Log Structures), signature "Glass Forest", a floor to cathedral ceiling window enclosed by two 14 foot cedar trees framing breathtaking views of the Gore and Ten Mile Mountain Ranges.
Master craftsman have left their mark throughout the home's 3 levels. Granite countertops, designer grade appliances, state-of-the-art home theater, and billiards room notwithstanding, take for example the Bristlecone pine mantel above the great room fireplace. Bristlecone pines are the oldest known living plants (up to 5000 years). Of course the one in Black Bear Haus would have been gathered after it died, but its unique closely spaced rings (indicative of the high altitude effects of wind, cold, dry soil and short growing season) speak of the attention to detail in this exclusive home.
The main floor includes a cozy great room with the "Glass Forest" window design and gas fireplace. Brazilian cherry hardwood floors compliment the ceiling height moss rock fireplace. The adjacent dining room and kitchen allow for all to participate in conversation. The main floor master suite is complimented by its own fireplace, flat screen TV and a jacuzzi bath. Views are plentiful.
The second floor has two master suites with balconies offering outstanding views. The landing has a desk overlooking the great room and day beds for extra lounging space or sleeping accommodations.
The lower level is highlighted by a billiard room, home theater and wet bar. An adjacent reading area has its own gas fireplace. The fourth master/bunkroom is an oversized room ideal as a place for another couple or for all the children. The accompanying bathroom has a steam shower to help ease the muscle aches of a great day of in the mountains.
Your cars will stay warm in the heated garage that has room for two cars and racks for skis and snowboards. A boot dryer will have your boots ready for a day on the slopes!
So come relax in the hot tub after a day's skiing or hiking, enjoy the company of family and friends in this spacious mountain getaway, and don't forget to make a wish in the wishing well!
